I dislike going to Joann's Fabric store for fabric. It may be because I'm always hungry after work. Or that I have my two BOYS who don't appreciate fabric and are just drawn to the glue GUNS. Or that it takes me forever to look through their one corner of fabric that is usually sports teams and red chili peppers prints. Or that the ladies are so unhelpful and seem to always be in a bad mood like they need a nap. Or that I have to actually pick a number and wait to get my fabric cut.
Lacey told me about Fabric.com. I've always been able to find a coupon code, and there are none of those above factors to discourage me from buying fabric! The only thing is, I really need to read ALL of the description. I almost bought purple fabric to re-cover my black desk chair. Some brown and print fabric looks darker than what I thought it would be, and some cotton fabric's damask print was much larger than I thought it would be, and more coarse. But it's still all usable, and makes me even more creative! (I used the pink and brown for a table cloth for Lindsay's pink and brown baby shower.) I'll find something to do with it later I'm sure.
Have you ever heard of laminated cotton fabric before? I must have skipped right over the word "laminated" because I fell in love with the print. It was twice as expensive than the other cotton prints, but I was willing to pay double for the pink-and-brown-ness of it since my 2nd favorite was out of stock. So I ordered a bunch of it thinking I could make some baby slings out of it.
I came home to a really tall skinny peculiar box propped up against my front door. It was a tall roll of plastic fabric. What the heck? I looked at my online receipt and saw that camouflaged word "laminated" right there. Dumbfounded, I called Lacey for inspiration. It looked like something a diaper bag would be made of, but I didn't think my sewing machine would be able to sew through 4 layers of it for the cording and pockets etc. I asked her what I should do with it. We both laughed at how much I had ordered. She suggested a diaper bag (no thanks), a changing pad, and a bib. Good ideas. I started sewing those and my sewing machine didn't want to play along. I borrowed my mom's sewing machine and made a changing pad, the cutest little reversible wipeable bib in the world, a wipes case, and even a camera bag for my new camera! I really do love that plastic fabric!
I put the neck strap on some D-rings on the sides of the camera box/bag and put an old wrist strap on the camera. I hate things on the back of my neck and a big strap would just get in the way. The wrist strap is more practical for me. I put magnents in it to close the flap b/c I had them and didn't want to go buy snaps or zippers or something normal.
I saved money on a camera bag and on gifts for baby showers. I need to invest in another seam ripper although my scissors, Cutco knives and tweezers slowly did the trick at 3am. I wish I were a quick sewer. It takes so much time for me though. Does fabric.com have seam rippers I wonder? (And my mom needed her sewing machine back, so I need one of my own too. Too bad my birthday month is already over:(
And I did finally get fabric with which to make Lindsay's baby sling. I wish I had put Isaac in it so I could have a picture of it on. It's on the right. And look at the pink and brown candies I found! Not the dish on the right.

You made a camera bag too? Wow! You are ambitious! It turned out really cute! I think I might just have to order myself some of that laminated fabric! You found all kinds of uses for it! I just ordered myself a laminated diaper bag off of ebay yesterday because I was so tired of mine getting all yucky!
I am SO impressed. I can't believe how talented you are. I would LOVE to learn to sew but I don't think I have the patience. You inspire me though!
If you have more of this, I have a friend you uses similar fabric to make lunch sacks. They are really adorable, and look pretty easy to make. I'm so impressed with all that you made! Go Tiffany!
Serious! And the pictures do not even do them justice!! They all are awesome! I am excited to show Scott my gifts and to use them!!
