fiddles

This performance was amazing. Here's a clip. It was in Navoo performed by some volunteers. It sounded better than the liver version of "the Devil Went Down to GA."

St. Louis

There's not an airport in Navoo, so we flew into St. Louis then went to see the gateway arch. It was Dylan's 1st time. He'll be impressed by the arch we went in next visit. He liked the ducks better and liked feeding him his gold fish crackers.

Follow the Leader

We're in Navoo for a family reunion. We're staying in a couple of big houses with empty basements. Dylan's never been in a basement before. The big boys (his uncles and my cousins and his grandpa) were playing crab soccer and Dylan wanted to play. He thought that they looked like they were jumping and crashing on the ground to Dylan, so he wanted to play. They were too rough to continue playing w/ Dylan there, so Matt said they should play follow the leader. It was pretty funny. Here's the 2nd half of him being the leader.

7 weeks update

I've been feeling yucky - kinda sea sick and really tired. I have been really hungry and that kinda bothered me. I don't remember being this hungry this early in my last pregnancy. My tummy hurts and I'm STARVING when I'm hungry. I don't think I ate one saltine cracker last time, but I had Steven buy me some this time. I have to go to bed with a full tummy. I still don't sleep well b/c I'm already really uncomfortable - why?!?!? I wake up lots and I'm a heavy sleeper, so that's wierd. I have to get up and go to the bathroom every night - that's the same as last pregnancy. I think it gets your body ready for when you have to get up to feed the new baby when he/she arrives.
I also have had lots of dreams. Unfortunately I can't remember most of them when 8am comes, but last night I dreamed that I went to my first doctor's appointment (which I did today) and while I was filling out the paper work I spotted two long tables of food! It was like their patients brought in lots of good stuff for the holidays like patients do at my office. There were lots of individually wrapped gormet cheeses with gormet crackers. (Hickory Farms probably) There were fresh fruits individually wrapped. I especially remembered the grapes and strawberries. Then on the other table it was like artwork made out of mint and chocolate. (I had had an after-dinner chocolate mint the night before and wanted more than one, so that's why I was dreaming of a whole set up.) Anyway, those are the foods that appeal to me these days. I remembered that Corrie was waiting for me to hurry up at my doctor's appointment b/c she was watching the babies and that's when I realized I was dreaming b/c I didn't remember getting Dylan up or feeding him breakfast. I had to get up and to to that OB appointment and they didn't have any food for me:(

It wasn't much of an informative appointment. We couldn't hear the heart beat yet b/c I'm still too early in the pregnancy. We tried. I'm going back in 3 wks, so I'll get to hear it then.

My brother the Rapper

Martin's CD/DVD cover My brother went to BYU for a couple of semesters but is home for the summer. He said it's not enough time to get a job but too long of a time to be w/o a job. So, he's teaching some swimming lessons for me and THIS is what he's doing in his spare time. He's leaving for his 2 year mission to Guatalajara, Mexico on July 4th. He has been reading and studying for hours each day, but he still needed to fill the rest of his time with something. He made a rap video for someone he knew back at BYU. It's her birthday present. It's pretty funny.

Rapper Martin's Video

Deleted Scenes (bloopers)

Ok, here's another clip of "sweet dance moves." JT, our youngest brother appears in this video:
Martin actually is a well-rounded kid. This is him with our mom on his high school graduation day. He made all A's at BYU. I'll miss him when he leaves for his mission. Two of our brothers, Matt and Stephen, were on their missions when I had Dylan. Stephen gets back soon so he can meet Dylan for the 1st time. Martin will have to wait to meet the next baby. It's a good thing that I have this blog so my brothers can catch up when they get back.

Too Much Trampoline?

Dylan's no little baby now. He thinks he knows how to jump on the trampoline (and our bed.) I like the 2nd picture b/c it showes him being blurry and crazy after a while of jumping and Martin and JT are sitting already tired just watching him.

Got Sand?

Dylan was having fun discovering the beach all over again. I thought we were past the tasting the sand phase, but apparently not. He was rolling around in it and making sand angels on his tummy.

Cousin Coby is 1!

Dylan had fun at Coby's 1st birthday party. They had a fun slip 'n slide, but I didn't want to get muddy and the big kids may have slid into Dylan. He watched w/ Coby from the trampoline.
Gabrielle, Coby's sister, had fun at the summer party. Her birthday is in the winter.

MMSM - Art

This week's MMSM is on the broad subject of "Art."
When I think of art, I think of my Grandpa Rebeck's watercolors. He even painted one just for me with my name on the boat and my last name on a sign! My mom only hung his artwork in her house. I also think of photography. Years ago my dad wanted me to get into it and got me a good 35mm camera. He wanted me to experiment with the different settings. If it had been digital or if film and batteries weren't so expensive, I probably would have pursued it more then. I didn't think I had any talent or time to work on it. I have always loved pictures though. Now that I have a constant subject - Dylan - I'm playing with it more. My cousin Lacey and her husband have mastered photography as an art:I have noticed that I appreciate art in any medium if I know history about it or the artist. Of course I like these pictures b/c I know the babies. I usually like music more when I see the artist(s) on the today show. I thought I'd be a Humanities major when I was at BYU. I still like museums and that's why Steven proposed to me at the Museum of Fine Arts. He put my ring in a display case in a jewlry exhibit. The story is way longer and more detailed than that - but I love art.

Today we were going to go to a playground, but this park was accross the street. I wasn't the only one of the 3 of us who would rather be surrounded by this beauty than go to a germy slide. I couldn't even get their attention b/c they were in awe of the fountain. I thought the picture was cute. It's when we first got there.
They had fun playing peek-a-boo
Beautiful
and they stopped to smell the flowers and feel the cool water Dylan was pointing out the beauty to his "date" who was intrigued - by him (j/k) aren't they so cute?! I love it when they "play nice."

Learning with books

Both babies love books. It's fun because they will point and recognize pictures. They will say or sign the words. They both have their own languages too so they'll tell you the story in baby-gibberish while they bang and point at the pictures. I cropped this picture b/c the book shelf has half as many books on it as it did this morning. They're all over the floor. We have lots of books thanks to some wonderful friends - mostly Marcie, Corrie, my mom, and a million from Kathy . (We have other bookshelves in the play room from the Szaszs.)

Dylan just started saying "happy" today and he suprised me by doing the sign for "dog."

Water table

Corrie had this in her front yard, but they moved it to Andre's pool. Dylan didn't just want to stand at it, he wanted to play IN it. So of course Malia joined him.

It looks like they're leaning in for the picture. A little later, Dylan tried to kiss Malia on the back of her head. Darren saw it and said that aloud. Well both babies heard the word "kiss" then kissed on the lips! They still both do the open mouth kisses. I wasn't in the pool so I didn't get a picture of it, but I would have posted it despite Darren's discust.

Swimming lessons w/ Uncle Andre

Even though I teach swimming lessons, I'm now playing more w/ Dylan than having structured lessons when we're in the pool. I do some stuff - of course, but at this age, lessons are usually just 15 min and we like to play a lot longer than that.
Andre was taking Dylan around the pool and had him reach for the wall then do "choo choo train" to safety. They also practiced dunking thier faces in the water, bubbles, and kicking. He's horizontal, reaches out instead of being clingy, doesn't mind putting his face in the water, and doesn't even think to wipe his eyes. Those are usually hurdles I have to work on with kids.
My mom taught swimming lessons yet had to put us in swimming lessons. I've heard that before. A parent just doesn't differentiate between structured lessons and fun. A lot of our friends are/were lifeguards, so I'm sure someone will teach Dylan to swim. I want him to swim the width of the pool by the time it gets cold out. We'll see. Swimming w/ Uncle Andre

Stairs

Dylan learned how to go up stairs in December or something. He would have climbed down head first I think at that point. It was amazing once he figured out that he had to back down feet first. He was so proud of himself. He learned when we were in Texas in January. He still goes down on all fours to climb up or down stairs unless he is holding onto something (or someone). It's fine indoors, but I don't have shoes for his hands. His hands get filthy especially on our porch. I love how cautious he is.

We saw another movie - Surf's Up. I liked it - better than Shrek 3. Brent and Jake helped keep Dylan's hands clean. Thanks boys! Dylan was trying to be like Brent here. He climbed up on the window sil, slid his legs around to he could sit, then barely hung on while he threw the ball. Then, he'd go fetch it and go through the process of climbing up and perching himself up on the ledge by his friend. Oh, and you can see the rain in the background.

Date Night

It's so much easier to plan dates WITH Dylan. We have fun just watching him play his heart out.

We went to our friends' house for a cook out on Friday night. An hour before the party - it was pouring rain with lots of lightning. Luckily it blew over.
Dylan had fun playing w/ kids his own age.
Dylan has a friend who's almost exactly his same age, and his name is Dylan too! We haven't hung out w/ him and his mom and dad much but the boys had so much fun running around chasing each other and screaming with glee. The blonde Dylan can say "bubbles" b/c his fun mom blows bubbles inside! My Dylan loved it.

Words to date

So far Dylan's words are:
Uh oh, hot, please, no, ball, Da Da and fish (which he also learned to sign).
I need to write these in his baby book, but 'til then this will store them. It's so cute when he says please and I can see how easy it would be to spoil him. How can I say no when he's being so sweet and polite?
